Friends of Project RENEW is proud to support the upcoming book What the People Told Me by journalist and author Thomas Bo Pedersen, a longtime friend and advocate of humanitarian mine action. In this powerful new work, Pedersen gives voice to communities across Southeast Asia and shines a spotlight on their lived experiences—including a dedicated chapter addressing the ongoing legacy of unexploded ordnance (UXO) in Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia.
Pedersen’s exploration is deeply personal and informed by his travels throughout the region, including his 2022 visit with Project RENEW. That visit inspired a moving reflection on the dangers of UXO and the resilience of survivors, which he captured in his piece “Dealing With the Deadly Legacy of War.”
We are honored that Project RENEW’s work will be featured in What the People Told Me, and we look forward to helping bring more international attention to the human stories behind mine action efforts. Pedersen’s book is not only a powerful chronicle of the past—it is a timely call for continued global engagement and support.
